My original plan for Kelly’s writing desk didn’t include any carving or other fanciness. However, after carving a few acorns into a block of wood we are placing at the top of a staircase, Kelly suggested incorporating them into her desk too. Since the desk may be pulled into the dining room to use as extra table space from time-to-time, it needs to be presentable from all angles. Acorns from all views it is! I roughed them out with a router, squared up the sides with chisels, and cleaned up the basic shapes with carving tools. Time to start shaping them!

Table legs on the lathe. One leg is for visual reference. I pull the diameters from story board.
Turned legs with acorns roughed out. Ready to carve.
One leg ready to carve. Test carving in the background.
